When traceability of measurement is required or judged essential for confidence, measuring resources are verified or calibrated, or both, at set intervals or before use against standards traceable to international or national standards (or, where none exist, the basis used is retained as documented information), identified so their status is known, and safeguarded against adjustment, damage or deterioration. If equipment proves unfit, determine whether earlier results were compromised and act as necessary.
