Failure to meet sustainability requirements should be treated like any other supplier failure; the organization could offer capacity-building support, work with other customers of the same supplier, work regionally or sectorally, or work with government to incentivise improvement; exit should be a last resort after support has been offered and the supplier has tried little or not at all, is incapable, or improvement is infeasible, the degree of failure judged on engagement, commitments and progress measurements; continuing to source from a failing supplier signals that the commitments are not serious.
