Performance should be monitored throughout the contract against requirements, terms and action plans, with two-way evaluation (suppliers told how they are evaluated and able to give feedback), sustainability criteria tracked together with criteria on cost, quality, delivery, service and technical matters (balanced scorecards), corrective action required on negative trends or breaches of thresholds, review meetings at agreed intervals and face to face for key suppliers, dependency risks reviewed on both sides, periodic audits of suppliers for important and complex contracts supplemented by other monitoring since audits alone cannot ensure compliance, recognition of outstanding suppliers, and a dispute resolution process using negotiation, mediation, conciliation or arbitration.
