To support the planned interdependencies between processes, the unplanned interactions within the project need managing, which should include: setting up processes for managing interfaces; holding meetings across project functions; settling issues such as clashing responsibilities or changes in risk exposure; measuring project performance with techniques such as earned value analysis (tracking overall performance against a budget baseline); and carrying out progress evaluations to judge project status and plan the remaining work. Progress evaluations are also a means of spotting possible interface problems, bearing in mind that risk usually runs high at interfaces. Project communication, essential to coordination, is covered in 7.6.
