People considering nursing should get information and guidance on the profession; basic nursing education should, where appropriate, sit within the general education system at a level like comparable professions; laws or regulations should set the basic requirements for nursing education and its supervision or empower a body to do so; and education should be organised around recognised community needs and available resources and co-ordinated with other health workers' education.
