Clauses 9 to 10: mechanical and radiation hazards – IEC 60601-1 - Medical Electrical Equipment Safety

IEC 60601-1 - Medical Electrical Equipment Safety 9.3: 9.3 Mechanical hazard associated with surfaces, corners and edges

Rough surfaces, sharp corners and edges that could cause unacceptable risk are avoided or covered, paying special attention to deburring and to the edges of flanges and frames, since a sharp edge can also cut wire insulation and create an electrical hazard; compliance is checked by inspecting the equipment and the risk management file, with the optional sharp-edge test of the rationale where inspection cannot decide.
