Whenever the product or the manufacturing process departs from what is currently approved, the organization obtains a concession or deviation permit from the customer before any further processing, and it obtains customer authorization before nonconforming product is dispositioned use-as-is or reworked. If sub-components are reused, the concession states this clearly. The expiry date or the quantity authorized is recorded, and once the authorization lapses the organization returns to the original or superseding specification. Material shipped under a concession is marked as such on every shipping container, purchased product included. Concession requests from suppliers are approved by the organization before they go to the customer. As revised by SI 9 (October 2017): the prior customer authorization covers use-as-is and repair dispositions (see 8.7.1.5), which resolves the conflict over approval of rework.
