A documented process controls, and responds to, changes that affect product realization, and it assesses the effect of each change, whether it comes from the organization, from the customer or from a supplier. The organization defines verification and validation activities that ensure customer requirements are still met, validates each change before putting it in place, documents the risk analysis behind it, and keeps the verification and validation records. A production trial run should be used to verify changes, supplier changes among them. Where the customer requires it, the organization tells the customer about any planned change made after the most recent product approval, gets documented approval before putting the change in place, and completes extra verification or identification steps such as a production trial run and validation of the new product.
