Requirements for manufacturing process design input are identified, documented and reviewed. They include: output data from product design, special characteristics among them; targets for process capability, productivity, cost and timing; alternative manufacturing technologies; customer requirements; experience gained on earlier developments; new materials; requirements for handling product and for ergonomics; and design for manufacturing and for assembly. Process design applies error-proofing to an extent that matches how large the problems are and how serious the risks they bring.
