Requirements for product design input come out of contract review and are identified, documented and reviewed. They include: product specifications, special characteristics among them; requirements at boundaries and interfaces; identification, packaging and traceability; alternative designs; the risks carried in the inputs and the organization's capacity to mitigate or manage them, drawing on its feasibility analysis; targets for conformity to requirements covering reliability, preservation, serviceability, durability, safety, health, environmental performance, cost and development timing; the legal and regulatory requirements (statutory and regulatory) of the destination country the customer names; and requirements for embedded software. A process carries lessons from earlier projects, competitor analysis (benchmarking), supplier feedback, internal input and field data into current projects and into later ones of a similar kind.
