To set the audit time for an integrated audit covering two or more standards, the certification body works out the time each standard would need on its own, applying every factor the relevant application document or scheme rule requires (for example Global ACI TECH-3-004 for quality, environmental and occupational health and safety systems, ISO 22003-1, ISO/IEC 27006); adds those times to reach the starting point T; then adjusts T for factors that increase or reduce the time. Reduction factors include at least the degree of integration, the ability of the client's staff to answer questions spanning more than one standard, and the availability of auditors competent in more than one standard; increase factors include at least the extra complexity of an integrated audit over single audits. The client is told that an audit duration based on its declared level of integration may be adjusted once integration is confirmed at stage one and later audits.
