The controller reports a personal data breach to the Federal Commissioner promptly and where possible within 72 hours of becoming aware, unless it is unlikely to risk legally protected interests of natural persons, giving reasons for any delay; processors notify the controller without delay. The notification describes the breach (categories and approximate numbers of data subjects and records), the contact point, likely consequences and measures taken or proposed, supplied in phases if necessary. All breaches are documented with facts, effects and remedial action, and breaches involving data exchanged with another member state's controller are reported to it without delay.
