Chapters I to III: Scope, definitions, general principles and operator responsibilities – EU Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011

EU Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 A8: Responsible operator, presence and accuracy, no supply of known non-compliant food, no misleading modification, verification (Article 8(1) to (5))

The operator responsible for food information is the one under whose name the food is marketed, or the importer if that operator is outside the Union. That operator must ensure the presence and accuracy of the information. Operators that do not affect the information must not supply food they know or presume to be non-compliant; operators must not modify accompanying information in a way that would mislead or reduce consumer protection and are answerable for any change they make; and every operator must ensure and verify compliance with the information rules relevant to its own activities.
