Equator Principles (EP4, 2020) EP4-P6: Grievance Mechanism

For every Category A and, where appropriate, Category B Project, the EPFI requires the client, within its ESMS, to set up effective grievance mechanisms for Affected Communities and Workers to raise, and see resolved, concerns about how the Project performs on E&S matters. The mechanisms must be scaled to the Project's risks and impacts and aim to resolve concerns quickly through a consultative process that is understandable, transparent, culturally appropriate, easy to reach, free of charge and free of retribution against whoever raised the concern; they must leave court and administrative routes open. The client tells Affected Communities and Workers about the mechanisms during Stakeholder Engagement; the UNGPs (Principles 29 and 31) give effectiveness criteria.
