Tools used in the development, verification, validation, manufacture or maintenance of a safety-related electronic system whose failure could introduce or fail to reveal a fault are identified and classified by the influence their output has on the system, and evidence proportionate to that influence is provided that the tool is fit for its use (validation, service history, or checks of its output by independent means), with tool versions under configuration control; software tools follow the tool classes and requirements of EN 50128 6.7.
