EarthCheck Company Standard Version 4.2 4.1.1: Environmental Impact

What does 4.1.1 require?

The organisation determines and records its level of environmental and social impact so that its approach is proportionate, taking account of ecological and social effects, closeness to sensitive natural or cultural areas, staff numbers, guest rooms and scale of activity. It is high impact if any one of these applies: identified actual or potential ecological or social effects; a site within 500 metres of a sensitive area; over 500 full-time equivalent staff; over 500 guest rooms including on-site staff housing; or operations at over five sites or on over five tour routes. Organisations in the high impact class need an EMS and EnMS backed by a thorough assessment of risk and a plan of actions; those classed low impact need, as a minimum, a written assessment of risk plus a plan for sustainability and energy actions covering the relevant Key Performance Areas.
