Client-lawyer relationship (Rules 1.1 to 1.18) – Connecticut Rules of Professional Conduct (Connecticut Practice Book)

Connecticut Rules of Professional Conduct (Connecticut Practice Book) 1.8-b-c-d: No use of client information to the client's disadvantage, no solicited gifts, no media rights during the representation

What does 1.8-b-c-d require?

Information gained in a representation may not be turned to the client's disadvantage without the client's informed consent, save where the rules allow or require it. A lawyer may not ask a client for a substantial gift, including by will, and may not draft a document under which the lawyer or one of the lawyer's relatives receives a substantial gift, unless the recipient is related to the client (the rule counts spouses, children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, other relatives and anyone in a close familial relationship with the lawyer or the client). While the representation continues the lawyer may neither make nor negotiate a deal for literary or media rights to a story drawn substantially from it.
