Where a client's ability to make or convey properly considered decisions is impaired, whether through minority, mental impairment or another cause, the lawyer keeps the relationship as normal as the circumstances reasonably allow. If the client cannot act in their own interest and faces a real risk of substantial physical, financial or other harm, the lawyer may take the protective steps that are reasonably necessary, such as consulting people or bodies able to help and, where appropriate, seeking appointment of a legal representative, revealing only as much information as protecting the client requires.
