Emerging technologies and other innovative proposals that have been identified are analysed for what they could do for the business, and stakeholders confirm the assumptions behind the analysis. Each technology is assessed for how soon it will mature, the risk inherent in it (legal implications included), how well it fits the enterprise architecture and the value it could bring consistent with strategy. Issues that must be settled or confirmed through a proof of concept are identified; the proof of concept is scoped with its outcomes, budget, time frame and responsibilities and then approved; and it is carried out to try the technology or idea, surface issues and decide, on grounds of feasibility, viability and risk, whether implementation is worth considering.
