A visit away from the practice needs the practice's capability to travel. Each GP who makes visits has access to a doctor's bag stocked to the list in the Standards: diagnostic equipment such as an auriscope, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope and thermometer, disposable gloves and other PPE, a sharps container, syringes and needles, dressings, in-date emergency medicines appropriate to the GP's scope including those for anaphylaxis, acute coronary syndrome, hypoglycaemia and pain, a torch, a stationery kit for prescriptions and referrals, and equipment for airway support. The bag's contents are checked regularly for completeness and expiry, kept at a suitable temperature, and secured against theft when not in use, with Schedule 8 medicines managed under State or Territory law.
