What does GP5.2 require?

The right equipment, working, is a precondition for care. The practice keeps the equipment needed for comprehensive primary care and for emergency resuscitation, covering at least the list in the Standards: diagnostic instruments such as an auriscope, ophthalmoscope, sphygmomanometer with a range of cuffs, thermometer, stethoscope and pulse oximeter, a peak flow meter, equipment to monitor blood glucose, urine testing strips, scales and measuring tape, examination light, eye examination equipment, and resuscitation equipment including oxygen, masks, airways, a bag-valve-mask and emergency medicines, plus PPE. Clinical equipment is serviced, calibrated and checked according to each manufacturer's recommendations, with records kept. At least one examination bed is height adjustable. The practice can obtain a spirometer and an electrocardiograph when clinically needed, on site or nearby, and has a defibrillator, maintained and accessible, with staff trained to use it.
