General Practice Standard 2 Comprehensive care – Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition)

Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition) GP2.1: Continuous and comprehensive care: patients can ask for their preferred practitioner, and the practice provides continuity of care and comprehensive care across the range of a patient's health needs over time

What does GP2.1 require?

General practice earns its value through relationship over time. The booking system lets patients request their preferred practitioner and tries to honour it, while explaining when another clinician is available sooner. The practice delivers continuity through a consistent record, handover between its clinicians and care planning for patients with chronic and complex conditions, and comprehensiveness by offering care across acute, chronic, preventive, mental health and other needs, referring on and coordinating where it cannot meet a need itself.
