A peak sports apprenticeship is available only to a person contracted to play at peak level for a club or team in a competition run by a Relevant National Sports Association (the ARLC and NRL, AFL, FFA, Cricket Australia and ARU, or another approved by the Commission). It must be under a recognised training agreement, supported by the club's Welfare and Education Manager or equivalent and approved by the State or Territory Commissioner for Vocational Training or equivalent, and must not exceed 6 years. The employer must pay the hourly equivalent of the full-time junior or adult apprentice minimum for hours worked including deemed off-the-job training, allow the same total training time as a full-time apprentice, count all part-time and full-time time for progression on a 4-year scale, and apply other award conditions pro rata. Workload may vary year to year with sports commitments.
