A school-based apprentice is one completing an apprenticeship under the schedule while at secondary school, under a training agreement recognised by the State or Territory authority. The employer must pay the hourly equivalent of the full-time junior or adult apprentice minimum for all hours worked plus deemed off-the-job training time; for a full-time school student, paid training time is 25% of actual weekly on-the-job hours, which can be averaged across a semester or a year. The apprentice must be allowed, across the apprenticeship, as much off-the-job training time as a full-time equivalent. The apprenticeship must not exceed 6 years. Progression is 12 months up the wage scale for each 2 years employed, with full-time time counting in addition if the apprentice converts. Other award conditions apply pro rata.
