Before any structural changes that will affect how GMOs are contained in the facility, the applicant has to ask the Regulator in writing either (a) to suspend the certification or (b) to vary the certified area so dealings can carry on in a part the changes do not touch. The guideline gives as an example a variation that temporarily partitions the facility, followed by another variation to restore the area once the work is finished.
