Australia NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework 2016 P-2: Positive behaviour support and reducing restrictive practices

Restrictive practices are reduced and eliminated through a legislative framework: a functional behaviour assessment and positive behaviour support plan by an approved practitioner before any restrictive practice (except certain environmental restrictions); least restrictive, last-resort and proportionate use; approval under state or territory law; plan review within 12 months; prohibited practices; provider reporting on every use; registration and an extra practice standard module for providers implementing plans likely to include restrictive practices; and a senior practitioner overseeing practitioners and use.
