Standard 2: Partnering with Consumers – Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition

Australia National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards Second Edition 2.03-2.05: A charter of rights consistent with the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights is used and accessible, informed consent processes comply with law and best practice, and processes identify a patient's capacity to decide and a substitute decision-maker where needed

What does 2.03-2.05 require?

A statement of patient rights aligned with the national Charter of Healthcare Rights must be in use and easy for patients, carers and families to find. Consent practice must satisfy the law and best practice. Procedures must establish whether a patient can decide about their own care and, where they cannot, identify who may decide for them.
