Standard 9: Specimen collection – Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027)

Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027) 9.01: Specimen collection environment: comply with regulations and jurisdictional requirements, design, maintain and equip facilities to support safe care, provide fit-for-purpose and well-maintained facilities and devices that meet patient needs, give clear signage and directions, protect privacy, dignity and safety, have fall prevention in place, plan for unpredictable behaviour, and separate collection from testing so patients cannot enter testing areas or reach supplies, devices and specimens

What does 9.01 require?

Collection premises are made safe. The practice meets the applicable regulations and jurisdictional rules; designs, equips and maintains facilities so that care is safe; gives patients surroundings, rooms, equipment and devices that suit their needs, are kept in good order and do the job they are there for; signs the way clearly; protects privacy, dignity and safety; guards against falls; plans for patients whose behaviour may be unpredictable; and, wherever it can, keeps collection physically apart from testing so that patients never enter testing areas or come near supplies, devices or specimens.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 1 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
