Every space occupants use must have ventilation with outdoor air that keeps air quality adequate; any mechanical air-handling system must control the circulation of objectionable odours and the build-up of harmful contamination by micro-organisms, pathogens and toxins; and contaminated air must be discharged so that it does not create a nuisance or hazard for occupants or for other property. Verification Method H4V3 (Class 1) shows indoor contaminant levels under typical use do not exceed Table H4V3 limits, for example carbon dioxide 850 ppm over 8 hours, carbon monoxide 90, 50, 25 and 10 ppm over 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour and 8 hours, formaldehyde 0.1 mg/m3 over 30 minutes and total volatile organic compounds 500 micrograms/m3 over 1 hour. Deemed-to-Satisfy route: H4D7, mechanical ventilation (other than exhaust fans from sanitary compartments, laundries, kitchens and bathrooms) to AS 1668.2, and ventilation to Housing Provisions Part 10.6 (openable windows, doors or openings of at least 5% of the room's floor area, borrowed ventilation from an adjoining room, or exhaust fans for sanitary compartments, laundries, kitchens and bathrooms discharging as clause 10.8.2 requires).
