Moisture from the ground must be kept from causing unhealthy or dangerous conditions or loss of amenity for occupants, or undue dampness or deterioration of building elements. A Class 10 building is excused from H2P3 where, in the particular case, compliance is unnecessary. Deemed-to-Satisfy route: H2D3 footings and slabs installed under H1D4(1)(a) or (b) (AS 2870, AS 3600 or Housing Provisions Section 4, including vapour barriers and damp-proofing); H2D4 masonry damp-proof courses to AS 3700, AS 4773 or Housing Provisions Part 5.7; H2D5 subfloor ventilation to Housing Provisions Part 6.2. New South Wales and South Australia replace H2P3 (see the State variation leaves) to require damage-resistant barriers under slabs and, in South Australia, barriers resistant to moisture, construction damage and salt degradation.
