Australia Model Code of Practice: Safe Design of Structures 4.1: 4.1 Design for safe construction

Construction risks can be reduced, for example, by clearance from overhead electric lines through burying, disconnecting or rerouting cables before construction; prefabricating components off-site or on the ground to avoid working at height or falling objects; designing parapets to guardrail height; continuous beam supports for beam-to-column connections; building permanent stairways at the start of construction instead of temporary stairs and scaffolding; reducing the gap between roof trusses and battens; choosing materials that are safe to handle; limiting prefabricated wall panel size where site access is restricted; selecting low volatile organic compound paints and finishes; and showing the position and height of electric lines on documents.
