Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Work Environment and Facilities 4.2c: 4.2 Control remote or isolated work with buddy systems, design, communication, tracking, training and first aid

Controls include working in pairs where risk is high, workplace layout and design to reduce violence (barriers, monitored CCTV, visibility), a communication system suited to distance and environment, movement records such as call-in systems or satellite tracking with distress functions, training for working alone including dealing with aggression, using communications, first aid, obtaining emergency help, off-road driving and bush survival, and first aid arrangements under the WHS Regulations. A telephone suffices if the worker can reach it in an emergency; otherwise personal security or duress systems (some with non-movement sensors), radio, satellite phones, distress beacons (EPIRB, ELT, PLB) or mobile phones with confirmed coverage, charged batteries and a spare should be used.
