Section 3: Assessing the risks – Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks

Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks 3.3c: 3.3 Test for exposure to vibration, and take the combined result

Prolonged exposure to vibration raises risk of musculoskeletal disorder and other health problems, rising with duration and amplitude. Sources include driving on rough roads, frequent or prolonged use of hand powered tools, machines or tools whose handbook warns of vibration, workers jolted or shaken continuously, and vehicles or tools unsuited to the environment or task. A task involves a risk if the answer is yes to repetitive movement, sustained or awkward posture, repetitive or sustained force, high or sudden force, or vibration. A task may involve more than one factor, and where several are present and interact the risk rises significantly.
