Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks
Section 3: Assessing the risks – Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks

Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks 3.2a: 3.2 Run the assessment with the right people, by task stage, with specialist help when needed

Identify who should take part: the workers who do the task, their HSR and management who control how it is done. Describe the task and area, note which body parts are at risk and work through the risk factors to see which pose a risk and why. Examine the whole task, in stages if helpful, for example collecting boxes from a dock (bulky loads), transporting them on a trolley (poorly maintained wheels), unpacking from the floor (awkward posture) and placing on shelves (heights too high or low). Looking at each stage shows the different sources of risk. Expert advice may help in complex situations and Appendix G lists risk assessment tools. Appendix F is a worksheet.
