When the insurer declines an offer to insure, cancels, indicates it will not renew, or offers less advantageous terms because of a special risk, it gives the insured written reasons if the insured asks in writing; for life insurance, reasons relating to the life insured's health go to the life insured on their request and are not given to an insured who is not the life insured. Where health is a reason, the insurer may give the reasons to a medical practitioner the person nominates. Failure is an offence (300 penalty units), with a defence where giving reasons would unreasonably risk the interests of the insurer or another person.
