Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017
Part 3: approval of premises, interim approval, period, revocation and variation (sections 11 to 16) – Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017

Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017 15-16: Keep the approval alive: maintain a favourable assessment, current NATA accreditation and any State accreditation for every kind of service covered, and give the Minister a satisfactory explanation for any State accreditation lapse, because revocation or variation must follow within 28 days of an adverse trigger

What does 15-16 require?

Absent exceptional circumstances the Minister must revoke an approval where the most recent assessment report no longer establishes with a high level of confidence that the services meet, and will keep meeting for the rest of the approval period, the relevant standards; where the most recent accreditation action is a revocation; where State accreditation relevant to the covered services has been revoked or not renewed and the holder has not given a satisfactory explanation; or where the Minister forms the view that the premises no longer meet the section 11 approval requirements. The Minister must vary the approval where the assessment report withdraws high confidence for some of the covered kinds of services, where the independent body removes a service from the accreditation, or where relevant State accreditation lapses without a satisfactory explanation. In each case the Minister acts within 28 days of learning of the trigger. The approved pathology authority therefore has to keep NATA accreditation current for every item group and the category on its approval, respond to adverse assessment findings before the report is finalised, and tell the Minister promptly, with reasons, when a State accreditation is revoked or allowed to lapse.
