Employer notice of termination is set by the NES (ss 117 and 123). Employees (other than those the Act excludes) must give notice by length of continuous service in Table 13 (1 week up to 1 year, 2 weeks to 3 years, 3 weeks to 5 years, 4 weeks beyond); if an employee aged 18 or over gives less, the employer may deduct no more than one week's wages from wages due, only if it did not agree to shorter notice and the deduction is reasonable. Where the employer gives notice, the employee must be allowed up to one day off without loss of pay to seek other employment, at times convenient to the employee after consultation.
