The insurer takes reasonable, flexible measures to support customers who need help meeting identification requirements, particularly customers from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities or non-English speaking backgrounds. Where practicable it provides an interpreter on request or where needed to communicate effectively, records whether an interpreter was used or why one could not be arranged, trains the Employees likely to need them, and provides on its website an easy-to-find link to interpreting services, teletypewriter services, translated product information and other resources for people with language barriers. In developing processes and procedures it takes account of people with past or current mental health conditions: at a minimum designing, selling and applying products in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act and State and Territory anti-discrimination law, treating such people fairly, asking only relevant questions when deciding whether to cover a pre-existing mental health condition, and where cover cannot be provided telling the customer of the right to the information relied on under Part 12.
