Financial Hardship means difficulty meeting financial obligations to the insurer; support is available to an individual insured or third party beneficiary who owes money (including an excess) under a policy, and to an individual from whom the insurer seeks to recover money for loss or damage to an insured or third party beneficiary, but not for premiums. The insurer will have policies and training to help Employees identify Financial Hardship and decide how to support the customer, encourages customers or their representatives to raise it, and when told or on identifying it gives details of how to apply and, if appropriate, the National Debt Helpline contact. It communicates about the application using the customer's preferred method where possible and keeps a nominated representative updated unless told not to. In assessing a request it considers all reasonable evidence (serious illness, disability including from mental illness, government benefit statements, unemployment), requests information only where reasonably necessary, tells the customer as early as possible and specifically what is needed, and gives 21 Calendar Days from the request to provide it unless a different timeframe is agreed.
