For Retail Insurance, Service Suppliers (investigators, loss assessors and adjusters, collection agents, claims management services, repairers and the like) acting for the insurer must tell the customer what service the insurer authorised and that they act on its behalf; must tell the insurer within 2 Business Days of a Complaint received about the insurer or their own conduct (handled under the Code's complaints process) and of any Code breach they become aware of when acting for the insurer; and must obtain the insurer's approval before subcontracting. The insurer will have measures to appoint only suitable Service Suppliers, who must hold whatever licence the law demands and satisfy the insurer that they and their staff have the education, training or experience (relevant professional membership included) to do the work competently and deal with customers professionally; every Service Supplier contract signed after the insurer adopted the Code must carry the relevant Code standards; and where a Service Supplier's performance falls short of the Code the insurer will address it, for example by cancelling the contract or requiring further training.
