An accredited individual must be appropriately insured for the fire protection services they undertake, with minimum cover of 10 million dollars for public and product liability and, for professional indemnity, 2 million dollars per claim inclusive of defence costs or 1 million dollars per claim exclusive of them. The professional indemnity policy must list among its business activities all work activities of the accreditation class and category held, be in the name of the accredited individual or their company only and not a joint policy with another party, and cover all past work done while accredited with FPA Australia for up to 10 years. The individual provides certificates of currency from the insurer for both policies, maintains insurance at all times and supplies updated certificates to stay accredited, and remains responsible for coverage of previous accredited work for up to 10 years, signing a statutory declaration at each renewal that such coverage is in effect including where a previous employer holds the policy. FPA Australia recommends run-off professional indemnity cover for seven years after ceasing to practise.
