Standard 4 Students – Australia AMC Standards for Assessment and Accreditation of Primary Medical Programs (2023)

Australia AMC Standards for Assessment and Accreditation of Primary Medical Programs (2023) 4.3: Professionalism and fitness to practise: policies and timely procedures for managing students whose impairment raises concerns about their fitness to practise or to interact with patients, including in a culturally safe way, and for identifying, managing and supporting students whose professional behaviour raises such concerns

What does 4.3 require?

Patient safety extends to the students who meet patients. The provider has policies and timely procedures for managing a student whose impairment casts doubt on whether they are fit to practise or able to deal with patients, culturally safe interaction included, and for identifying, managing and supporting a student whose professional behaviour raises the same doubts. The procedures are fair to the student, protect patients, and connect to the provider's wellbeing supports and to mandatory notification obligations.
