Standard 4 Students – Australia AMC Standards for Assessment and Accreditation of Primary Medical Programs (2023)

Australia AMC Standards for Assessment and Accreditation of Primary Medical Programs (2023) 4.1: Student cohorts and selection policies: intake size defined against the provider's capacity to resource every stage of the program; a defined cohort with targets and strategies for recruiting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Maori students, students from rural backgrounds and students from equity groups, matched by infrastructure and support for their retention and graduation; inclusion of students with disabilities; and transparent, fair selection and admission processes that prevent racism, discrimination and bias (other than explicit affirmative action) and support the selection targets

What does 4.1 require?

Who is admitted shapes the future workforce. How many students are admitted is decided by what the provider can resource at every stage. The provider describes the cohort it wants, sets targets and plans for bringing in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Maori students, students of rural origin and students from equity groups, and backs those targets with infrastructure and supports that help these students stay and graduate. It supports the inclusion of students with disabilities. Selection and admission are open and fair, designed to keep out racism, discrimination and bias (explicit affirmative action excepted) and to deliver the selection targets.
