Above-ground pipes are held by brackets, clips or hangers that suit the pipe material, fix to the building structure (not another service), take the loads, resist corrosion, do not abrade the pipe, stop lateral movement and keep valve operation from moving the pipe; pipes are not supported by items brazed or welded onto them or by other pipes, PVC-bearing clips are not used on stainless steel, spacing follows the support table, and pipes under strain or torsion are fastened against twisting (2003 text).
