Harnesses come in two types, full-body and lower-body, manufactured to AS/NZS 1891.1 or, after Amendment 1, AS 1891.5 for associated items. A full-body harness is required wherever free fall over 600 mm is likely; lower-body harnesses may only be used where any fall would be a limited free fall or a pole-strap restrained fall; a belt or waist strap alone is not permitted in place of a harness for any application of the Standard; each harness must offer a front connection point rated for fall arrest; and Table 4.1 matches equipment to fall severity.
