Section 2: Design – AS 3740:2021 Waterproofing of Domestic Wet Areas

AS 3740:2021 Waterproofing of Domestic Wet Areas 2.1.1: 2.1.1 Design principles: retaining water in the Category 1 area

The design must keep water within the Category 1 area, whether the shower is enclosed or unenclosed. If a shower or wet area needs a floor waste, its floor drains to that waste. For a Category 2 area, waterproofing reaches at least 1 500 mm out from where the shower rose connects to the substrate, with the waterstop provisions of Clause 4.8.2. Notes advise that movement joints must not compromise the wet area and that the design should limit causes of efflorescence.
