Argyris Double-Loop Learning D2: Map defensive patterns with action maps

What does D2 require?

From transcripts and case discussions the organization builds action maps of its defensive patterns: the governing conditions (for example user pressure and tight resources), the action strategies each party uses toward the other, and the successive orders of consequences (unrealistic solutions on both sides, mutual double binds, issues becoming undiscussable and uninfluenceable, and self-reinforcing mistrust, cynicism and low confidence), each feeding back on the last. The map shows all parties that they jointly create the pattern and provides the basis for organizational change.
