ANSI/ASIS WVPI AA-2020 Workplace Violence and Active Assailant 6.2.5: 6.2.5 Training

The program shall provide training at the start and at intervals for five audiences: the Threat Management Team, top management, those who supervise or manage, employees, and people who work for the organization without being employees. Content varies by role, but all employee training should cover: basic facts about workplace violence including an overview of its behavioral or psychological side; the terms of the policy and related policies and the rights and duties they create, such as reporting duties and channels; what worrying conduct needs reporting; and how to act on such reports and on emergencies that follow from them. The organization should also give advanced training to particular groups: team members, HR, legal advisers and security should cover the full range of issues in the standard, with team members getting the most thorough training in behavioral aspects, violence risk screening, investigation and intervention, resolution and multidisciplinary case management, often with outside specialists; managers and supervisors at every level should focus on their duties to spot and report concerning behavior and to support the team's mitigation measures; employee training should explain the program, the commitment to safety, the duty to follow the program, and how to report and respond, and may add after-incident care, workplace violence stressors, ways to handle them and available resources. The organization should keep effective records of training and attendance so all employees are shown to be trained, and should use a mix of methods suited to each audience.
