ANSI/ASIS PAP.1-2012 Physical Asset Protection B.6.2: B.6.2 Video system architecture

Architecture matters for IP-based or multi-site systems. On the corporate network, IT should be involved to define its role, covering at least local and wide area network use, client computers, servers and their software, network switching and routing, malware protection and scanning, updates to software and device firmware, external and internet access, traffic priority and latency, and storage on the network. If the corporate network is unsuitable, a dedicated security systems network should address the same points plus access to business applications such as email and any integrated business systems. A stand-alone system suits a single site with no planned expansion, such as small or isolated locations or covert short-term cameras; multi-site systems can give tiered access, with top users seeing all sites and each site limited to its own cameras.
