The data subject may object at any time, on grounds relating to their situation, to processing based on a public task or legitimate interests, including profiling; the controller must stop unless it demonstrates compelling legitimate grounds that override, especially for legal claims. Objection to direct marketing, including related profiling, may be made at any time without reasons, and processing for that purpose must then stop. Objection to processing for public sector information purposes under Article 44 is limited to processing not needed for a public interest task, and for research or statistics it applies unless the processing is needed for a public interest task. The right to object must be brought to the data subject's attention explicitly, clearly and separately from other information at the latest at the first communication.
